The Mexican cigar plant produces masses of tubular, scarlet flowers with a black and white tip (resembling a burning cigar) and are well-branched plants.

They are drought resistant once established and can be kept at 20-30cm tall with light pruning.

Perfect to grow in a pot on your windowsill.

Growing information

Sow in a propagator (18-20C) into moist well-drained seed compost. Cover lightly with compost as light is needed for germination. Germination takes 7-21 days approx.

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to individual cells or 9cm pots. As the plants grow, move them to a larger pot to suit their size.

Can also be used as an attractive and unusual bedding plant in the summer months.
