The Djembe drum from West Africa has achieved world status as a percussion instrument.

The drum shell is carved or turned out of wood. Then the skin is stretched across the top and tied on using knotted nylon cord to provide tension, and a way to tune or alter the pitch.

A great fun and easy drum.

To play the Djembe drum you use your open hand to "slap" the skin from the centre outwards. Different sounds can be made - the most distinctive are those in the middle and the outside of the drum. You can either play holding the drum between your knees, or with the large sizes sitting on top of the drum laid horizontally on the floor.

Our Djembes are made in Senegal and Bali.

Due to the nature of this product, colours and sizes may vary.
