Known as m'bira or marimba all over sub-saharan Africa, thumb pianos are a traditional and timeless African instrument. Made from hollowed out coconut shells with hand painted tops these are an unusual and fun instrument for kids.
Not tuned to an exact Western scale, these instruments are as much rhythmic as melodic. Lightly strike the keys with both thumbs.
