The drawers of this boat contain spices of all kinds. People love to dig into this box of tricks and get a good waft of the beautiful aromas. The plants that many of these spices come from are grown in our Rainforest Biome – see if you can spot them.
Spices have created quite a stir over the years and helped shape the world we live in today.
- It was while Christopher Columbus was sailing in search of the East Indies and pepper that he came across the Americas.
- The bubonic plague came to Europe in the 1300s via the spice route from Central Asia.
- The valuable nutmeg trees found on the tiny East Indian island of Run caused the Dutch and English to fight bloody battles in the seventeenth century.
