The Science Communication Unit at UWE are delighted to announce an opportunity for a fully-funded PhD studentship, to be co-funded by UWE Bristol, and the Eden Project. This project ‘Visualising impact: Engaging visitors with complex science and environmental issues’, offers the successful applicant the chance to work in collaboration with the Science Communication Unit, at UWE, who are internationally recognised for their innovative science communication approaches, and the Eden Project, a world-famous visitor attraction and educational charity. The Eden Project has recently been awarded £1.9 million by the Wellcome Trust to create a permanent immersive exhibition, Invisible Worlds, exploring the interconnectedness of life and the environment around us at every scale. These innovative new exhibits are due to be developed from May 2017, with the exhibit opening to visitors in Spring 2018. This PhD project will provide a unique opportunity to follow the development of an exhibition through its life cycle. The PhD will start in January 2017 and is ideal for a self-motivated and enthusiastic student with a broad interest in science communication and/or public engagement who is willing to learn the interdisciplinary skills required in the field.
The University funding will cover 50% of the annual tuition fees and annual stipend. The remaining 50% will be generated from an external organisation willing to sponsor the research project for 3 years.
The studentship is available from 1 January 2017 for a period of 3 years, subject to satisfactory progress and includes a tax exempt stipend, which is currently £14,296 per annum.
In addition, full-time tuition fees will be covered for up to three years (Home/EU rates only). Overseas applicants will be required to cover the difference between Home/EU and the overseas tuition fee rates in each year of study.
Applicants must have a good honours degree (2.1 or equivalent).
A recognised English language qualification is required.

Car Parks Operative
Temporary contract until January 2016,
25hr per week contract,

We are looking for people to work with our car parks team during our busy periods. We have 11 car parks of varying sizes and we can fill all of these, so you will need to be a quick learner, confident, able to make decisions and to react to changing circumstances to make sure our visitors have a smooth arrival and can find a parking space.
Our car parkers are the first staff that our visitors meet, so we are looking for people who are also friendly, approachable, informative and helpful. If you can do this with a flourish and a smile, even on the wettest of summer days, we would love to hear from you!

Chef de Partie

In short Eden is an exciting and inspiring place to work! The Finance team have an important and valued contribution in developing, operating and reporting on a unique and diverse range of activities.
A key role to work with the Financial Controller to deliver accurate and timely month end processes with management accounts and future forecasting. This is a new role, which will also be responsible for the sales ledger, banking and cash reconciliations and line management of a Sales Ledger Clerk. The role-holder will be the Finance Business Partner (see below) for Eden’s extensive multi-venue catering operation and Eden’s corporate events business. This role will likely suit a Chartered Accountant (ACCA or ACA).
You will be joining a Finance team of 11 in our bright, friendly and open plan offices at Eden’s headquarters on site in Bodelva, Cornwall. Applications are welcome from both local and relocating applicants (there is no relocation package).
Ideally you will be a qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA or ACA) with chartered membership of relevant awarding body and at least two years’ experience working in a role similar to those advertised. Logistics Services Operative
30 hours per week

The Eden project is a unique visitor attraction and this is a unique role to fill.
We are looking for people to deal with a variety of different tasks across the whole site both in public areas and behind the scenes.
This will in the main include cleaning of toilets, offices, and associated areas across all of the Eden Project with use of Professional cleaning equipment.
In addition you will be required at times to assist at the recycling plant based at Eden and thus an understanding of recycling streams would be useful.
You need to be enthusiastic and prove a good level of flexibility as the role will also require driving hence a full driving licence is essential and other tasks at Eden as required offering a service to other site staff.
Knowledge of Health and Safety would also be an advantage however all training for the role would be given as required.

Narrator (Level 3)

The Narrator Team wish to enhance the range of skills within the team and are looking to fill available positions with those who have a passion for people and plants, first class customer
service and communication skills, creativity and oodles of energy to join the team at Level 3.
The role of the level 3 Narrator is to be an intelligent, interactive and passionate member of the team with great presentation skills who can adapt to the various learning styles of our visitors. You will maximise opportunities to bring the biomes (including the lookout) and gardens alive with well researched engagement through conversation, props and stories using flair, theatre or play holding a mixed audience for a minimum of 30 minutes. You will be able to learn to deliver overview guided tours in the biomes and gardens; hence, you will have a thorough knowledge of the Guide book and have a clear understanding of the Eden Project, its aims and ethos. This is an exciting, varied and diverse role where you will use your innovative and interactive engagement as an opportunity to bring out behavioral change and contribute to the transformational change the team continuously aspires to deliver.
Importantly you should be a pro-active team player happy to work on a rotation that covers positions within Eden and its Biomes supporting the full Narrator team effort.

The Eden Project is an educational charity that seeks to connect people with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work towards a better future. Our training programmes are vital in terms of ensuring our team members understand this mission, the ethos that underpins it and are equipped with the skills that enable them to deliver it
We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic person to effectively coordinate an expanding training programme for our team of over 350 core and 150 seasonal team members, and 170 volunteers. Over time the post holder will be expected to be able to deliver all elements of the training programme in line with Eden’s interactive and experiential teaching ethos, including Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity, HR and Management workshops, as well as other courses that are identified to address skills gaps.
The successful candidate will need to be highly organised to successfully plan and coordinate a busy and diverse programme involving many different stakeholders. You must be a reflective practitioner who can contribute to the continuous improvement of our training programmes by collecting and analysing feedback data and using this to ensure they are effective and create a lasting positive impact.
This is a part time, three day per week (24 hours) role and the time will be split between being in the office coordinating all elements of the training cycle, out and about on site promoting our training programmes and teaching courses to our team members and volunteers.
Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in training coordination, with excellent IT and communication skills and the ability to engage with audiences at all levels whilst promoting our training programmes. Some experience of training delivery in a business context is required, but the role would suit someone who is looking to grow and gain more experience in this area.
