Eden Project North community conversation: November 2021

We will encourage as many visitors as possible to walk, cycle or use public transport for both environmental and practical reasons and will work with Lancashire County Council and Lancaster City Council to enable this to be an attractive and easy option. Our planning application includes an extensive section on Transport Assessment, Travel Plan and Environmental Impact Assessment which collectively contain assessment of traffic and parking impacts, the use of park and ride systems and discounts for people who use green transport.

We have long been advocates of sustainable transport and Eden in Cornwall has always offered incentives for people arriving by bicycle, on foot or using public transport. Eden Project North will be working to ensure that similar incentives will be on offer for our visitors here.

Sustainability is a crucial part of the conversation we aim to have with our visitors. Art, science, adventure, play and performance will all play a role in communicating our message on sustainability amongst other topics, inspiring wonder and connection to the natural world. Our work on Eden Project North will be an evolution of what we do in Cornwall but the underlying messages will be the same.

We are aiming for late 2022 for construction to begin, leading to an opening late 2024. This is reliant on planning permission being granted and funding being in place in the timeframe we expect.

We haven't yet confirmed the details of how Eden Project North will be powered but we are working very hard to ensure the project has exceptional credentials in terms of its environmental performance. Eden Project North will be carbon negative, meaning it will remove more carbon from the atmosphere than it emits, and will have a positive effect on the biodiversity of the area. Using renewable energy will be part of this and we will explore all options available to us.
