Early Career Teacher Weekends at the Eden Project

A weekend focused on the 'why' of teaching and leading – not just the ‘what’ and ‘how’

Did you know?

17.2% of teachers consider leaving the profession within their first two years.

Our Teacher Weekends provide practical support, resources and models to early career teachers and leaders, helping reduce the numbers choosing to leave teaching at an early stage in their careers. Inspired by the unique setting and mission of our educational charity we create space and the opportunity to build connections and networks for teachers and curriculum leaders working to bring nature, sustainability and outdoors meaningfully into their practice and schools.

By spending significant time and space reconnecting with their purpose, our weekends are designed to strengthen teachers’ commitment to the profession: one third of the weekend unashamed well-being time, one third inspirational speakers and practical workshops on nature-based, sustainability-focused and outdoor learning, one third group-coaching and action planning for the future. The programme is designed to keep good people in the profession for longer, connected to their purpose and equipped to engage with the bigger ecological narratives and challenges facing schools and young people.

Over the last 5 years, 100% of previous participants say they would highly recommend the weekend to other teachers.

Facilitated by Alex Bell – an award-winning leadership and innovation coach at Portland Education – and by the Eden Project’s Education Team, the programme takes place in the breathtaking setting of the Eden Project in Cornwall.

Keeping the flame alive

“What you teach will change over time. How you teach will improve and get better over time.  But why you teach… that’s the precious flame we’ve got to nurture and intensify not diminish.”
