How to make a recycled marble run
Making a recycled marble run helps to get kids creative as well as learn a few simple laws of physics.
Opening on 28 March 2026, discover our brand-new Giant Marble Runs – an exhilarating play adventure woven through the Outdoor Gardens at the Eden Project.
Race giant wooden marbles down over 100 metres of handcrafted track, split across eight unique runs nestled across our landscape. Packed with clever engineering, problem-solving, hands-on interactions and satisfying sounds, this all-age immersive experience brings play right into the heart of our gardens.
Pick up a beautifully carved wooden marble when you arrive, and follow it as it twists, turns and tumbles on a journey through Eden’s sprawling gardens.
Our marbles are crafted specially to glide seamlessly through the runs, and can be borrowed for a £5 returnable deposit. At the end of your marble run adventure, you can either return your marble to reclaim your £5 deposit, or keep it ready for your next visit.
Demonstrating and inspiring positive action for the planet is at the very heart of Eden’s mission – play is one way to achieve this.
By playing with movement, children are encouraged to test ideas, predict outcomes and problem-solve in real time.
Playing amongst nature helps connect us to its wonders, provoking lifelong curiosity and greater understanding. Research shows that when playing outdoors, children are up to five times more active than playing indoors and use five times as many words.
