Following the latest lockdown, Eden reopens to the public next Thursday, December 3, and launches Christmas at Eden the following day, Friday December 4.

As darkness falls, the world-famous Biomes will glow with a warm welcome in an all-new light show.

As a stunning centrepiece, a huge mirror-ball high up in the Mediterranean Biome will cast a blizzard of snowflake-like points of silvery light across the giant structure.

This is the twinkling setting for a joyful celebration of Christmas music, performed live by musicians on four separate stages dotted among the gardens and exhibits. Performances are on selected dates between 5pm and 8pm.

The dramatic landscape of the tropical Rainforest Biome will be lit up in many rich colours to create a compelling world of shadows and light.

Since before the lockdown and during the closure, the Eden team has been pulling out all the stops to create a memorable-yet-safe Christmas experience.

Visitors will be able to enjoy seasonal walks and trails through the spectacular 30-acre Outdoor Gardens, have a skate on the glittering ice-rink and warm up with a hot chocolate or festive treat.

On the new menu are turkey or vegetarian burritos, winter pizzas, seasonal sourdough melts and a host of sweet treats including doughnuts and crepes and festive gingerbread.

Director of Interpretation Jo Elworthy said: “We are thrilled that we are able to reopen just in time for the coming Christmas season and are so looking forward to sharing with visitors our magical world of music and light.

“It feels extra special this year as 2020 has been a tough time for everyone. We have been working tremendously hard to offer an enchanting space that you can come and visit and remember loved ones both far and near.”

On reopening, to ensure safe social distancing Eden will continue to operate at reduced visitor capacity with pre-booked timed entry required for all guests.

There are one-way routes throughout the Outdoor Gardens and Biomes. Visitors will be asked to keep moving at all times through the Christmas experience so that everyone can enjoy the lights and music safely.

A big highlight of the season is Eden’s glittering ice rink, offering 40-minute sessions for skaters of any age and ability.

Social distancing safety measures mean that the rink operates with much-reduced numbers – so skaters have more space than ever before.
