‘Ourselves and our grandchildren have made wonderful memories!’
Participating grandparent

Do you regularly look after your grandchildren as part of childcare arrangements? And are you looking for inspiring places and activities to enjoy with your grandchildren in Cornwall?

We’re running special ‘grandparent-friendly’ activity sessions at our beautiful site, where you can:

  • enjoy spending time with your grandchildren outdoors
  • be inspired by play ideas and outdoor fun, with activities led by our expert team
  • have the chance to meet other grandparents with their grandchildren

Autumn activities

You can find details of our programme of drop-in and bookable sessions for grandparents and their under-fives during September and October. We'll be sharing information soon about our winter programme.

Tuesdays: Garden Explorers

A one-hour workshop which meets near the Core Café and explores a different theme in the garden each week through play. Go ‘Round and Round’ the Spiral Garden; hunt for minibeasts; try pond dipping and help Eden’s Gardeners water our thirsty plants; identify leaves and create some leaf art and find out what’s under our feet.

When: Tuesdays, 10.30am and 1.30pm, on 11, 18, 25 September, 2, 9 October
How to join in: Please book your free place(s) online. Book a morning or afternoon session online.

Wednesdays: Look Closely

Drop-in for some early years science activities in the Lab. Develop your looking skills as we discover all the parts of a plant and what they do.  Sort, match, order and explore.

When: Wednesday 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm, on 26 September, 3, 10, 17 October.
How to join in: Simply drop in. Meet us at the Lab in the Core

Make some noise with music specialist Matt Douglas. Learn new words and songs to describe all the fascinating plants that you can see around you in the Mediterranean Biome. Practise spotting rhythms and patterns in the music and learn to play as part of a group. Get your groove on to the beat of the Biome.

Who it’s for

We’ve designed these sessions with grandparents and under-fives in mind, as we know that many visit Eden regularly – often as part of regular childcare arrangements.

Follow us on Facebook for updates about our grandparents and under-fives activities.

How to book

Follow the booking links above next to each session. The bookable sessions are free with admission (so you'll just need a ticket, Annual Pass, Locals' Pass or Eden Project Membership to come in), and don't forget that under-fives get free entry to Eden. You will need to book your grandchild(ren)'s free place on the session to help us anticipate numbers. We ask for a maximum of two children per adult. Please note that the named adult on the booking form must be the individual who attends the session.

How to find us

Many of our sessions begin in the Core Café. Your quickest route, especially when you are visiting with a small child, is to turn right as you exit the Visitor Centre and follow the ‘Accessible Route’. Cross over the bridge and come down in the lift. Outside the Core, turn right and walk around the side of the Core and left, across the small bridge and through the door into the rear of café. We meet there, opposite buggy parking and near the under-fives soft play area.

Volunteering opportunities

If you’re interested in volunteering at Little Eden for Grandparents, we’re particularly looking for those who are aged over 50 and have enthusiasm for learning. Find out more about this opportunity.
