Drawing on the immense beauty of the natural world portrayed in Horizon Forbidden West, the partnership will see the creation of a 12-acre wildflower habitat in Morecambe, Lancashire, UK, that will be sown in March 2022.

The habitat will be spread across sites in and around the town, located at sites including Sunny Slopes in Heysham, one of the main gateways on to the promenade, as well as West End Gardens and Happy Mount Park.

Why are wildflower habitats important?

Wildflowers provide pollinators (bees and other insects that pollinate plants) with local food sources across the seasons. Many of our favourite fruits, vegetables and nuts rely on these pollinators. Wildflowers were once a significant part of the British landscape, but today, tragically, they account for less than 1% of the British countryside.

Creating new wildflower habitats helps support not only these pollinators, but also aids biodiversity, and helps connect local communities to the natural world.

How can I get involved?
